'Casa Nuova' first appeared in the 1906 edition of the Sydney Sands Directory and would have been built in 1905. Arthur J. Cozens was listed as it's first occupant. By around 1920, the Laing family were residing at the house. On March 15, 1920 there was notice for the funeral of James Gillespie Laing, Jnr. to leave his father's residence, 'Casa Nuova' on that same day.[1]
In early 1927 the house was put on the market for sale. The ad goes into good detail describing the house.[2] By the 1940's the Birrell family were living at the house. In the May 11, 1944 issue of Sydney Morning Herald there was notice of the engagement of Audrey Birrell, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Birrell, who were residing at 'Casa Nuova' at the time.[3] |
